Naming Names
There is a long and growing list of unsolved murder cases. The list of known or suspected murderer names are very short. Why? Is it that no one knows the names of the murderers who have committed over four thousand unsolved murders in the nation’s capitol? Are names filed away in police file cabinets with no one able to bring convictions?. We now see some naming names on television (AMW, 48 Hours, Murder 360) shows. The show 48 hours states, “most important work to solving murder happens in the first 48 hours.” Are our detectives not doing enough early on? Do they not have the resources, leadership to make arrest and get convictions or has the criminal mind outwitted the legal mind?.
On the early morning of May 16, 2000, several young men, known to Damion Mikel King, aka Dirty, were near him, headed toward Myrtle (2800 blk) Avenue North East; minutes later Damion was dead in a pool of blood, beaten and stabbed. The names of those persons have been in police files for almost eight years, without an arrest. In a Washington Post 2002 article, Police Capt. Thomas McGuire said: ” He would not call the individuals suspects, curiously after stating that police follow up on information supplied by family members, and that information did result in solid leads.
Early after Damion’s murder important information came forward. The individuals were seen in the area in a grey Chevy station wagon, asking for the whereabouts of Damion, shortly before midnight on the night of his murder. Leon Antwan Swain, the driver was found murdered off Browns Bridge Road, in Howard County, Maryland, on October 5, 2002; anyone with information can call 410-313-2236. In 2000, Leon stated his innocence in Damion’s murder, he said “I was not with those guys at the time of the murder, I dropped them off on Newton Street, before midnight. If I were with them, I would not have let it happen.” Some information says several individuals jumped from a car and attacked Damion on Myrtle Avenue, a block from his home. Other information states, “I saw Damion, Gene and them walking toward Myrtle Avenue.” Some persons altered their comments later in police questioning. In any case these and other comments about Damion’s murder point from that point until now to the same individuals. One of the individuals Eugene A. Thomas aka Lil Gene, alibi – ” I was in Rockville, Maryland that night with the rest of those guys, naming three ( Mikey, Quet, Lil G) and others. This alibi proved false according to police Detective Daryl Richmond, lead detective in the May 2000 murder case of Damion.
As stated in an earlier article on this site – Seeking Help In Unsolved Cases, to name names by the end of April 2008, if no new information on this case was provided. These are the names of those involve in the May 16, 2000 Murder of twenty two year old Damion Mikel King – current information .
Eugene A. Thomas, 25 aka Lil Gene, previously of Myrtle Avenue NE.
Marquette A. Brooks, 26 aka Quet, previously of 57th Avenue, Bladensburg, Maryland.
Damion Graves, 25 aka, Lil G, previously of Newton Street, Mount Rainier, Maryland.
A brother of Marquette A. Brooks, may have had involvement, and some in this case are deceased. Michael F. Thomas, (aka Little Mikey) Eugene’s cousin , was murdered on January 26, 2002. Eugene A. Thomas committed perjury saying he did not know of or sold (pcp, cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy) drugs in the 3100 block of Newton Street area, during the fall 2002 murder trial of Michael F. Thomas. Eugene and others committed perjury (section 1746 of Title 28 shall be fined , imprisoned or both) before a Grand Jury hearing , in the May 16, 2000 Murder. Will the Grand Jury government prosecutors take a detailed look into this? If not, why do we have Grand Jury hearings?.
Drugs were often sold by these young men, under and around the nose of Park Police who parked near the grassy area of Eastern Avenue and Monroe Street, North East, and the DC Police while they purchased food from the Sunny Carry Out on Rhode Island and Eastern Avenue. Some of these young men have convictions in Maryland on drugs and/or weapons charges. A caller gave detailed information in a taped call to the Mount Rainier police department, according to DC dectective Daryl Richmond, in Febuary of 2006, about the murder of Damion Mikel King. Information which took months to get to the DC police, at no fault of Mount Rainier police not trying, stated then Mount Rainier, police SGT Stoots in November 2005 . this case, the DC police state, is not closed because we do not have any eyewitness.
This is one of many cases where perpetrators remain on our streets, partly because detectives have been outwitted and in a case where the eyewitness may be the killer themselves, as sometimes is the case. This case along with many others remain unsolved as other murder cases are continually being added to the growing list. Some investigations in murder cases are poor, naming perpetrators who take life is right, doing anything less is wrong. Snitch On Murder, add names, even if some in the Metropolitan Police Department, have no inkling.
